udoku fans and crossword puzzlers of nine years and older are likely to have particular fun with this little quar- ter-hour puzzle by Christoph Cantzler and Anja Wrede, claims the publisher. There is only a single rule to follow when building Town 66: No color or shape may appear twice in a row and column of the gradual- ly expanding six-by-six grid of buildings. There are 36 buildings in the game, so there’s one shape in each color.
At the start of the game, I get four tiles, and on each of my turns, I lay out one. I even have information about the other players’ options, because the tile backs in- dicate the color of the respective building. At the end of my turn, I redraw a building tile and can decide to discard a tile. While this leaves me with fewer tiles and limited actions, playing to an empty hand can also be quite appealing, because at the end of the game the player with the fewest tiles wins, and in case of a draw, the player who played the last one wins. Town 66 has
certain “crazy humor,” and after a test game, I definitely agree.
The crazy Professor Knix has complete- ly messed up the timeline and gathered a large group of helpers around him: the fluffy, but not harmless creatures called “Cronks.” We players are time travelers who try to put the world back in order. Meanwhile, cards of specific timelines are laid out on the table. We all decide together—almost like in a point-and-click- adventure—which card will come into play next.
The fact that Albert Einstein, a Coke and a washing machine all play a role in one story shows how things go haywire here. As a group, we should keep track and take information or objects from one timeline to another. Then new timelines will keep opening up.
If you don’t take yourself too seriously and enjoy whimsical ideas that definite- ly have the intention of trying to trick your group, then you might acquire a taste for this. For now, two adventures, Einsteins Relativitätskrise (Einstein’s Relativity Crisis) and Da Vincis Uni- versal-Dilemma (Da Vinci’s Universal Dilemma), will be released. In addition, Pegasus is planning a short promo case as an introduction. ChronoCops is al- ready available. (sd/cs)
