 NEU IN ESSEN
Queen Games
After the Kickstarter backers, other customers can now get copies in Essen. The “Stefan Feld City Collection” is launched, with four titles all at once. While Ham- burg (called Bruges before), Am- sterdam (the ex-Macao) and New York City (formerly Rialto) have been extensively revised, Mar-
rakesh is a completely new title. The component-laden game hits the 100-euro mark, but it comes with a special dice tower. To toss in the “Kesh- ies,” small, wooden cylinders in twelve colors, which, if not swallowed up by the tower, then are selected by players in turn and placed on their own tableau. Where they accumulate and increase an action’s strength over three rounds, pro- vided you choose it. Which in turn depends on the colors you actually toss into the tower: Do you send your assistants to the palace or the mosque, as fishers to the river or as harvest helpers into the date plantation? If they do not act there, then another marker is put in the corresponding segment of the tableau. As a result, in the final round, it is possible to make huge jumps ahead and win points
on all tracks.
In case the two to four strategists aged 14 and up still haven’t had enough after
two hours, the game also includes five additional modules. Marrakesh is, like the other three games of the “City Collection,” already available for purchase. (sd/cs)

Stefan Feld (52) works as a prin- cipal at a high school in Gen- genbach. And Queen Games is
currently reissuing many of his older games under the heading of “Stefan Feld City Collection.” The series will comprise at least six games.
A whole series of Stefan Feld games from just one publisher. Has Queen Games become the new Alea for you now?
Stefan Feld: It has indeed become a new home. It is quite a big deal and an honor to get your own game series. But that doesn’t stop me from keeping in touch with old acquaintances.
The games have great components, but they also come at a price.
To me as designer, look and compo- nents are extremely important. This used to be a blind spot in my games in the past. I like to sit at the table and
celebrate a game. And part of that is a great appearance. I’m all for making beautiful products.
Five of the six games are heavily re- vised new editions. Seems like you weren’t exactly happy with the con- tent of them either.
Even after 100 or 200 test games, a game still has something you might have missed. When many more people play it, things start to become evident. In Bruges, for example, I didn’t think the end game was well-rounded, so Hamburg now has fixed turn numbers. We may have broken up the systems of the games, but not changed their character.
Some of the games of the “City Col- lection” are already a couple of years old. Was that something you consid- ered as well?
In the past, games used to be tough, confrontational, interactive. Today, many players like instant gratification and a feel-good factor. That’s why the revisions were more effort than I expected. Almost as much as new games, but well worth it. These are definitely not new editions for reve- nue’s sake. (sd/cs)
