are important for the satisfaction of the population. Well done!
In order to make some progress on the many tracks, the two to four indus- trialists, above ten years of age, must pick one of the four action cards in each round, which are then executed from left to right. As a rule, these earn you steps on one of the tracks—and in the best-case scenario allow cascading chain moves. After each action card, an event is trig- gered, but only for those players who have not yet taken an action. And there they are again, our beloved dilemmas.
After 12 rounds, there is a small fi- nal score, by which time, according to the publishers, 60 minutes are over. To give the game more variety, there is an A and a B side to the tracks, almost like on a good old vinyl record. Rise has been scheduled for release in October. (ab/cs)

nce again, the world as we know it has gone down the drain. Frost-
punk: The Board Game is set in a gritty, dystopian
steampunk scenar-
io. And like with all
gritty, dystopian ste- ampunk scenarios, gameplay is primari- ly about (in this case: collective) survival. But also about city building: We want to rebuild New London after the (almost) all-destructive ice
storm. Adam Kwa- pinski adapted the successful computer game for the analog world, and Frosted Games is now pub- lishing it in German.
In the story-driv-
en Frostpunk, one
to four players aged sixteen and older, must work together to keep the genera- tor (enabling survival in the new ice age) running, to expand the city and to run a functioning administration—but unfortu- nately, you can’t make everybody happy with every decision. Talking about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Depending on the scenario, differ- ent tasks have to be fulfilled. It’s just hard that every day begins with a pre- dicament. For example, do you let the starving population have their gambling nights or ban them? Of course, that de- cision affects the overall mood. Then there is the generator. If we don’t heat enough, more people get sick. If we heat too much, the generator takes damage.
And as phase four of every round shows, it always gets cold- er. A weather board indicates exactly by how much. All this happens before the first cup of coffee in the morning, mean- ing before you even take any actions.
Behind Frostpunk are the makers of
This War of Mine, and we find: They re- ally know their stuff when it comes to highly immersive ex- periences. The rules are almost a book, so Frostpunk is defi- nitely recommended
for very experienced groups. It is due for release in December. (ab/cs)

t’s pure mysticism when druids gather around an ancient Oak tree, brew po-
tions, build shrines and chew on mistle- toe. “Druidic orders from far and wide gather around the roots to bathe in the Oak’s glory, to grow their discipline, and show their devotion. Arch-Druids sancti- fy sacred places and erect rune-etched stone menhirs. Bards gather stories to take on their recruitment travels. Ovates read the omens to gain a glimpse of the things to come. Talon-Masters use force to defend their Order’s beliefs”. This is the world of Oak, in the words of designer Wim Goossens
What the flavor text fails to mention: The druid-worker-placement-business is ultimately tough. The only thing that matters is to be the one of the (up to four) orders that proves worthy of the old oak tree after about 90 minutes. And that is the one that has accumulated the most victory points.
The druid placement mechanism has been known since the beginning of time. Either one of them goes to the
