 All New Makes the Autumn
  Full Throttle.
2F-Spiele
Full Throttle! — one could think that behind the title lurks an episode from the author Frie- demann Friese’s youth: tuned mopeds in an illegal race. Yeah, that’s the spirit. And of course: a good tune up is half the battle.
The game was conge-
nially staged by none oth-
er than 2-stroke “Maura”
Kalusky, a passionate mo-
ped rider himself. But back
to the game: even though
it’s a race, the players don’t
drive themselves “due to
the lack of courage and good
health insurance” as it says in the rule book. But at least we can bet on the race outcome ... which is also illegal. Yeah!
Six mopeds sputter along one of two circuits. As soon as three of them reach across the finish line after round three, the game ends. But before we get there, the following takes place: First, we draw a certain number of cards, dependent on the number of players (there are two to six, from the age of 10). These determine how far which moped may travel.
Once all the powered two-wheelers have moved, the person with the spark plug marker takes all the cards in their hand and chooses one to place face down in front of them. The card value does not matter, only the color is significant. This is how a bet on a certain driver is placed. This continues in turn, until every player drafts a card. The remaining cards are placed under the draw pile face down. Then the mopeds roar on.
The funny thing is, because the race cards are also betting cards, the mopeds that are favored slow down towards the end of the race. They run out of cards. Sounds like a cool nightcap. (ab/dm)
Abacusspiele
Brand management is big for Abacus this fall, therefore a lot of new cases are popping up, for example, for Sherlock Holmes (who now investi- gates during medieval times) as well as Decktective (“The Will without an Heir”) and Deckscape (“Dracula’s Castle”). They both originate and were localized by Italian partner dV Giochi, just like the big title and a real eye-catcher, Wonder Book, which is the name of the work by Martin Chiacchiera and Michele Piccolini, announced as a “pop-up adventure.” So just open up and off you go.
Players, of age 10 and upwards, are one to four teenage adventurers who set out to accomplish ever changing tasks in six consecutive scenarios. The idea is to explore a new part of the “interactive 3D cardboard pop-up book” in each chapter.
Ken, Lara, Tina, and Sid explore the world of Oniria, home of the ancient drag- on civilization. Cards are used to advance the story, and they also determine what should be done next. One constant here is the players fighting against Wyrms in order to reach their goal. All four heroes
have their own individual skills and they learn more throughout the course of the campaign. As per the rules, the Wonder Book can be explored more than once to help uncover twists and secrets that might have been missed the first time around. (ab/dm)
Amigo
Another racing game, this time with small wind-up cars with keys on the roof instead of mopeds: Spring Rally by H.J. Kook, which was already released in 2018 by the Korean publisher Mandoo Games and delivers what its title promises. It’s a trick-taking game using three colors that help advance you on the race track. The usual constraints apply, but the two oth- er colors are trump and the later trump wins. The winner of the trick moves their car as much as the lowest number on the card played during the trick. The other players tune their engine and move the
dial on their engine disc forward
