Of course, there are always some players who don’t like to do em- barrassing things— and for many a play- er, the mango gestures might fall into exactly this category. However, these gestures are not exaggerat- ed, they range somewhere between “somewhat funny” and “you don’t quite make a
fool of yourself.” Mango Tango cre-
ates a well-seasoned mixture of group feeling and malicious joy—provided all players are willing to fully let themselves in for
the game. (sbw)

Entertaining, but not much replay value.
Hitster: Guilty Pleasures / Summer Party
A Colossal Classic

heard a certain song. It is almost always helpful to combine the musi- cal style and the spirit of the time. This shows how ingeniously Hitster has adapted the Anno Domini principle. It is secondary whether a song feels like “Summer” or like “Guilty Pleasure” in our memories; as for the latter, it feels a bit awkward to know the text by heart.
The instructions are identical with the origi- nal. That’s a pity. It would be worthwhile to mention the cooperative rules first; the other variants have one disadvantage: People with a profound knowledge of titles and artists have a winning advantage. I par- ticularly like it when two or three teams from mixed generations compete. Com- petitive and cooperative at the same time—that’s the

here are hardly any games where I am certain after such a short time:
even two years old. But it has already been played numerous times and exu- berantly enthused very many players. The precondition for the right mood is that there are enough people at the table—I recommend between eight and an infinite number. And you shouldn’t just have a weak smartphone speaker available, this music-guessing game needs quite some oomph. Additionally, I recommend ad- free Spotify access, which costs eleven euro per month and is a good investment considering the playing fun. After some initial problems in 2022, the technologi- cal interaction between the Hitster app and the Swedish music streaming service is now working perfectly.
If you take the game out only on New Year’s Eve and two or three other major holidays, you will be able to grow old with the basic game. If you play it more often, you will wish for new songs. Schlager Party, released last year, appealed only to fans of that genre. Now two more box- es have been published: Summer Party and Guilty Pleasures. Their music mix is popular and so varied that the vast majority of players are feeling addressed by the selection of songs. This makes Hit ster stand out from many other guessing games where intellect, verbal creativity or thematic preferences play an important role. One could almost say that Hitster overcomes affiliations to social classes and strata in many respects.
What’s particularly striking in Summer Party is that it works better than the ba- sic version when it comes to the age of the players. This box includes consider- ably more titles from the current millen- nium. So far, teenagers and young adults in mixed groups tended to feel disadvan- taged, since the previous editions seemed to focus on the 1980s and 1990s. This is not the case in Summer Party; here, the number of classics that everybody has heard is noticeably smaller. Consequently, it is considerably less often that the titles and the artists are guessed correctly. But this doesn’t impair the core of the game— arranging the chronological timeline—at all. Hitster works even with the vaguest suppositions as to when you might have
most fun.
