Players who build on one of the six
(eventually seven) autobahns can place workers in the respective construction offices. At the end of an era, when a cer- tain number of road tiles have been laid, there’s an administration phase when all workers in the construction offices get paid. Rewards are also handed out for individual route cards, which always connect two cities. If your route performs well, you’ll score big.
Players will want to quickly promote their employees from the construction of- fices to secure (and lucrative) spots in the governmental administration. There, they will act as victory point multipliers, de-
pending on your qualification for gas sta- tions, countries where you deliver goods, or construction office workers.
The card mechanic is intriguing. Each autobahn is associated with a specif- ic color. No matter what you do—build gas stations, load new trucks, expand the road network—you have to play the matching color for the autobahn you’re working on. Once you’ve played all your cards, they return to your hand (you can take them back earlier, but you’ll lose a turn). New cards bring stronger actions and even action chains.
Overall, the game is clear and well-structured. Unfortunately, due to the many small details, it’s easy to make an error, like forgetting about an action tile or marker, simply because there are so many to track. However, I was surprised by how much the theme drew me in and how determined I became, especially in the later eras. I would have liked a way to speed up the endgame, though. It might be logical that things slow down as the autobahn gets busier, but from a game- play perspective, higher speeds would have been desirable. (sb)

The selection of actions is very chal- lenging due to the card colors, which inevitably leads to a lot of thinking. It feels a bit like some trucks on German autobahns: overloaded. It also lacks that one twist that would make it truly special.
