ing flexible or playing specifically on certain colors. But there’s more to do: We collect banners to exchange them later for victory points, we move our marker on the governance track to actually become, say, the desired plutocracy in the end, and so on.
Things get a bit trickier in the final scoring. On the one hand, there are the victory points collected in the course of the game, which are kept. Then there is a separate second scoring: For this, players may once again use exactly one of their already played action cards of each color. Then we check: Have I achieved my own form of governance, such as plutocracy, oligarchy, or magistracy of the doge? No? Well, then I only receive the lower of the two victory point scores. If I have attained my form of government, I must then count the crowns on the victory point track, visible between the first and the second victory point marker. Only those who can now hand over the cor- responding number of crown markers re- ceive the higher of their two victory point tokens; those who cannot do so again
only get the lower end. Cit- tà-Stato has already been launched. (ab/cs)
MHans im Glück ore than 20 years after the
first game came out,
there are indeed now
Mists over Carcassonne.
And because mist is a bit opaque by na- ture, designer Klaus-Jürgen Wrede has now released his first cooperative variant of the game. It still has square tiles with pathways and cities, but almost all of them also show gray clouds drifting over the landscape. And, would you believe it, there are ghosts floating around in those, which all players around the table have to tackle together.
If ghosts need to be brought into the game and players have run out of mee- ples, then the group loses the game, just like when they don’t reach the specified minimum score in one of the six levels. However, the group can forego plus
points in a scoring and instead remove up to three ghosts from a foggy space. And since the game is cooperative: If the group succeeds, according to the usual Carcassonne rules, in having several meeples of different colors on a path or in a city, then each color scores points separately. A huge boost on the com- mon scoreboard. One to five players aged eight and up can participate here, and a game lasts about 35 minutes. Mists over Carcassonne has been announced for October. (sd/cs)

OThe Search for The holy Grail
ne of the most famous legends in human history,
surrounding King Arthur, the Round Table and their search for the Holy Grail, gets a playful adaptation by designer Emanuele Briano in DIE ZUKUNFT VON CAMELOT (The Future of Camelot). At the behest of the king and his advisor Merlin, knights and magicians are finally supposed to work together to track down the Holy Grail. Since competition is known as a great motivator, several retinues are sent off to face challenges in the countryside as well as at Camelot. Two to
five players from age ten upwards try to score the most points by having their knights complete the available missions, while the mages try to predict as accurately as possible how many knights will be sent out in total, in order to gain a preferential selection of those missions. Unfortunately, things are not all
that harmonious at Camelot–and intrigues abound.

OUND BOX is a cooperative game by Hjalmar Hach and Lorenzo
Silva that requires one of at least three players, aged eight and up, to recognize sounds and noises. The non-listeners draw from a wide variety of terms, such as “bathroom” or “soccer game,” and are then all asked to represent their terms acoustically at the same time, which of course leads to a LAUTSALAT (the German title, meaning Sound Salad). From this confusion, the eavesdropper behind blindfold glasses must now guess individual terms. Use anything that may help the guesser to make some noise–all objects can become hearing-aids. Creativity is key here! (jpn/cs)
