During a turn, advancement depends on time units spent on different actions until a player takes the front spot. They take their turn again only after having been passed by all their drinking buddies. De- pending on how the round is played, this can sometimes lead to turns with plen- ty of action points, which can produce surprising encounters. If you bump into a colleague along the way, you have to toast with each other, which earns both
of you pleasant advancements on the Cheers track — with the typical side ef- fects. It can happen that someone gets so drunk that they have to sleep it off.
Generally, it is important to keep an eye on the competition. The openly avail- able objective cards reward only those that fulfill their conditions at a specific location first or collect certain souvenirs.
The full-length trip simulates a three- day weekend; a shorter two-day version is
offered as a variant. The theme is funny and authentically implemented; a com- prehensive rule book provides many his- toric facts and describes all the featured breweries. (cc/dm)

In recent years, Italian game design has acquired a reputation similar to Italian fashion, wine, art, or sports car design: very sophisticated, extremely elegant, and primarily something for connois- seurs. After Cranio released a terrific expert game with Barrage, which was published in German by Feuerland under the name Wasserkraft, all eyes are now expectantly on Golem. Especially, since the designers Flaminia Brasini, Virginio Gigli, and Simone Luciani stand for great cinema.
Golem is, that much can be said al- ready, a heavyweight in every respect. It weighs almost five pounds, but mechani- cally it’s one of those everything-is-some- how-connected-and-important games where you have to manage extremely well the resources that always feel sparse.
