There is a lot to do for us as employees of the road construction au- thority because, in the still young Federal Republic of Germany, the autobahn network must first be built and then expanded in the course of a game of Autobahn. Over three time periods the network becomes increasingly dense. The designers Fabio Lopiano and Nestore Mangone have woven some nice historical details into their already mechanically dense construct. In the third period from 1991 on, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the autobahns in East Germany can finally be built. In addi- tion, we expand the gas stations network along the autobahns. We also have to deliver goods abroad with our trucks such as washing machines and chemicals. Maren Hoffmann was on the road for us in this typical Euro heavyweight. It was published by Alley Cat Games.

This is how cute the dragons in Wyrmspan (published by Stone- maier Games) look. At least some of them. They replace the birds from the 2019 Kennerspiel des Jahres Wingspan. Well, that’s a very abbreviated version of the truth. The new designer Connie Vogelmann has changed a few things compared to the original game. For example, there are now caves that we first have to exca- vate so that our dragons can set- tle there. Christward Conrad has explored the depths of this game for us and finds: Wyrmspan has its place.

“I need some good rat-vise!” That’s probably what everyone was think- ing at one point or another while planning their next move in Rats of Wistar. There is so much to do: expanding the cave, exploring the house, inventing things like the Clockwork Camel. And there is so little time. Only fifteen actions, to be exact. Sounds like typical modern Ital- ian game design? That’s right, the game was devised by Simone Luciani and Danilo Sabio and published by Cranio Creations. Stefan Ducksch investigated the comings and the goings of these special rats for us.
