Review. The Adventures of Robin Hood
      In the Moment
With The Adventures of Robin Hood, designer Michael Menzel has done all the work. Players can sit down at a beautifully arranged table and just enjoy. They don‘t need to read any rules, they can just get right down to business in Sherwood Forest.
ingly optimized for both user-friendliness and aesthetics without detracting from the experience. On the contrary, it means that you‘re immersed in the action right from the start of the game and nothing – really, nothing – gets in the way of the nine-chapter-long story.
You assemble the opulent, double-lay- ered board from eight pieces, dump out the bag of components and you‘re ready to go. There are no squares to count off and you don‘t have to calculate move- ment points. Instead, you just move freely across the board. Where you go depends on where you want to put your pieces. You measure your own range using three of your own long pieces, which indicate exactly how far you are allowed to go. Details on the illustrated map are signifi- cant: if you scoot around in the shadows, you won‘t be seen by the guards.

enemies uncomfortable in Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood will always be there, of course, but there‘s also Will Scarlett, the hunky Little John and Maid Marian, whose ”Hold“ is an inadequate descrip- tion of her ability – she can fight just as well as any man. Or perhaps the men fight like Marian, depending on how you look at it.
Michael Menzel‘s The Adventures of Robin Hood is great in every sense of the word. The game has been uncompromis-
